Parkinson's treatment often becomes a problem of timing. Levodopa remains the foundation of motor care, but as disease progresses, periods when medication works can shorten and involuntary movements can appear. Other dopamine agonists offer options, yet tolerability and behavioral effects often limit their use.
On September 25, 2026, the FDA approved AbbVie's Juvmo (tavapadon), a once-daily oral partial agonist selective for dopamine D1 and D5 receptors. The receptor profile is distinct from the D2/D3 emphasis of older dopamine agonists. It does not, by itself, prove that Juvmo eliminates neuropsychiatric side effects or delays the need for levodopa.
