What the law does
Maryland Chapter 747 of 2025 regulates AI used by carriers, pharmacy benefit managers, and private review agents in utilization review. Decisions must rest on the patient's clinical history and circumstances. AI may not replace the clinician's role or alone deny, delay, or modify services. Tools must be open to inspection, and quarterly adverse-decision reports must say whether AI was used. Effective October 1, 2025.
