CCPA clarification for data in AI systems
Effective January 1, 2025
What the law does
California AB 1008 clarifies that personal information under the CCPA includes data in AI systems that can be associated with a consumer. For health companies that train or fine-tune models on patient or member data, consumer rights can reach training and inference data, not only traditional records. The clarification took effect January 1, 2025.
