1. FDA Advisory Panel Backs GRAIL’s Galleri Multi-Cancer Blood Test

An FDA advisory panel has voted in favor of GRAIL’s premarket approval application for Galleri, a blood-based screening test designed to detect a shared cancer signal across more than 50 cancer types and predict where that signal most likely originated. The vote marks a significant regulatory step, but it is not an FDA approval.
The details:
Three separate votes: The panel voted 10-0 that Galleri is safe, 6-4 that it is effective, and 7-2, with one abstention, that its benefits outweigh its risks for screening adults aged 50 and older.
A screening test, not a diagnosis: Galleri analyzes cell-free DNA methylation patterns from a blood draw. A positive result requires additional diagnostic work, and the test is intended to complement (not replace) recommended single-cancer screening.
The evidence remains contested: Galleri’s large UK trial did not significantly reduce stage III and IV cancer diagnoses overall at three years, even though GRAIL reported more encouraging results in selected cancer groups and later screening rounds.
The Signal: The favorable benefit-risk vote improves Galleri’s regulatory position, but it does not guarantee approval, a particular label, or broad reimbursement. The close effectiveness vote makes the next phase less about whether the technology can find cancer signals and more about whether earlier detection produces enough clinical benefit to justify false positives, follow-up imaging, biopsies, specialist capacity, and cost. The FDA can accept or reject the panel’s recommendation and may impose labeling or post-market requirements.

2. Lantheus Wins Final FDA Approval for Bravnetsa Through the ANDA Pathway

Lantheus has received final FDA approval for Bravnetsa, its lutetium Lu 177 dotatate product for adults with somatostatin receptor-positive gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. The company says it is the first radioligand therapy approved through the Abbreviated New Drug Application pathway.
The details:
Equivalent to the reference product: The FDA determined that Bravnetsa is bioequivalent and therapeutically equivalent to Novartis’s Lutathera for the approved adult indication.
A broader regulatory precedent: The approval shows that a complex radiopharmaceutical can satisfy the ANDA standard, which is designed for products that rely on an approved reference drug rather than repeating the reference product’s full development program.
Execution now matters: Lantheus still has to demonstrate reliable isotope supply, time-sensitive distribution, site readiness, and payer access. The estimated 200,000 Americans living with GEP-NETs should not be read as the number automatically eligible for treatment.
The Signal: Bravnetsa introduces the first FDA-recognized therapeutically equivalent rival to Lutathera in the United States, creating the possibility of more choice for treatment centers. But approval alone does not establish a price reduction, immediate formulary switching, or a ready-made pathway for every future radioligand, including actinium-225 products. The commercial test will be whether Lantheus can deliver dependable supply and win contracts in a market where logistics are as important as the molecule.

3. Survey of 202 Hospital Nursing Professionals Finds AI Is Adding Work, and a Sense of Surveillance
Black Book Research’s survey of 202 hospital nursing professionals found widespread concerns about AI-enabled monitoring, additional work and limited frontline involvement in deployment decisions.

A vendor-agnostic Black Book Research survey is putting a sharper number on the adoption problem facing hospital AI. Among 202 nursing professionals surveyed in August, 65% said at least one AI-enabled system made them feel watched or behaviorally tracked, and 63% said AI introduced new tasks without removing existing work.
The details:
Workflow changed around the technology: Fifty-two percent said they had changed documentation timing or care sequencing because of automation, while 49% reported using workarounds to keep care moving.
Psychological safety is part of the deployment risk: Thirty-three percent said AI-enabled oversight made them less willing to report a near miss or uncertainty, and only 38% said they felt safe overriding an AI recommendation.
The sample needs context: The results are self-reported and cross-sectional. They identify serious operational warning signs, but they do not prove that AI caused turnover, reduced safety reporting, or represents every US hospital nurse.
The Signal: The survey’s most important finding is not that nurses reject AI. It is that adoption weakens when automation adds review work, measures behavior without clinical context, or leaves staff unclear about how data will be used. Hospitals should treat workload removal, override rights, disclosure, and nursing participation as procurement criteria, not as change-management tasks to address after a contract is signed.
