1. FDA Approves Teva's Weltruza, a Monthly Olanzapine Shot Without Required Post-Injection Monitoring

Teva announced FDA approval on October 9 for Weltruza, the first once-monthly subcutaneous olanzapine formulation for adults with schizophrenia. It uses Medincell's SteadyTeq technology and is expected to become available in the United States in the coming weeks.
The details:
A simpler visit: No loading doses, oral supplementation, or post-injection monitoring are required. Older intramuscular olanzapine, Zyprexa Relprevv, requires at least three hours of observation after each injection.
Clinical foundation: Approval follows the Phase 3 SOLARIS program. Weltruza comes in three strengths: 318 mg, 425 mg, and 531 mg, corresponding to daily oral doses of 10 mg, 15 mg, and 20 mg.
Safety still matters: Weight gain, metabolic changes, and injection-site reactions remain relevant. Teva's safety information says it is not known whether post-injection delirium/sedation syndrome can occur with Weltruza; removing the observation requirement does not establish zero risk.
The Signal: A formulation change can alter the practical reach of an established medicine. Removing a lengthy observation window could make olanzapine injections easier to offer in community psychiatry. The commercial test is whether coverage, procurement, and patient follow-through allow clinics to turn that simpler visit into sustained treatment access.

2. argenx's FB102 Meets a Phase 2 Celiac Endpoint, With Phase 3 Development Planned

argenx reported positive topline results on October 8 for FB102, an investigational antibody targeting CD122. The study tested whether it could protect the intestine during deliberate gluten exposure, a meaningful development for a disease still managed with a strict gluten-free diet.
The details:
The study: FB102-301 enrolled 126 adults whose disease was controlled on a gluten-free diet. Participants received intravenous FB102 or placebo during an eight-week gluten challenge.
The primary result: The drug met the Day 78 endpoint measuring change in villus height-to-crypt depth versus placebo (p=0.0176). Other inflammatory and symptom measures were consistent with that finding, according to argenx.
The next step: Phase 3 development is planned. Detailed results are still to be presented, and the medicine remains investigational; this is not approval or evidence that patients can abandon dietary precautions.
The Signal: Protecting intestinal tissue is a more consequential goal than making gluten exposure feel less uncomfortable. But the next trial must establish how reliably that protection holds, how symptoms change, and how safety performs over longer treatment. The opportunity is substantial; the evidence is still developing.

3. CraniUS Announces a Second Cranial-Plate Clearance and a Patent for Investigational Brain Delivery

CraniUS announced two separate milestones on October 7: FDA clearance for NeuroPASS 2, a new CraniUS Plate configuration, and a patent covering the architecture behind its NeuroPASS 3 drug-delivery program.
The details:
What is cleared: FDA decision K262874, dated September 11, covers the patient-specific cranial plate. Its opening is designed to accommodate a future intracranial pressure sensor; the sensor and monitoring function are not cleared as part of this device.
What is patented: U.S. Patent No. 12,752,051 covers an architecture combining a cranial implant, refillable reservoir, regulated pump, and brain-delivery catheters. Patent protection establishes intellectual-property rights, not clinical effectiveness.
What remains ahead: NeuroPASS 3 is an investigational, drug-led combination product. It is not FDA-cleared or approved and is not available for sale. The company is targeting a first-in-human study in Q2 2027.
The Signal: CraniUS is trying to turn cranial reconstruction into a foundation for therapeutic access. That is an interesting platform strategy, but plate clearance and drug-delivery validation are different hurdles. The next meaningful evidence will concern distribution, long-term reliability, safety, and the treatment paired with the device.
