Dexcom has officially launched its Stelo Glucose Biosystem in the United States, marking the first time a continuous glucose monitor is available to consumers without a prescription. The device is designed specifically for adults aged 18 and older who do not use insulin, including those with type 2 diabetes managing their condition with oral medications or lifestyle modifications.
The system features a wearable sensor worn on the back of the upper arm that transmits real time glucose data to a smartphone application every 15 minutes. Each sensor lasts for up to 15 days, and the product is sold directly to consumers online for $99 for a two pack, or $89 per month under a subscription model.
This launch shifts continuous glucose monitoring from a purely clinical prescription tool into a direct to consumer metabolic health product. For operators and investors, this creates an immediate pathway to integrate bio-wearable data into digital health platforms, corporate wellness programs, and virtual care models targeting early stage metabolic disease.
