The HealthTech CV, portfolio and interview guide
How to present clinical or technical experience so a health technology hiring manager reads to the end.

Health technology hiring is noisy. Companies receive hundreds of applications from clinicians and from technology people who want a mission. The applicants who get interviews are simply easier to evaluate, because they made the evidence obvious.
One page, three signals
The reader spends under a minute. They are looking for three things: domain proof, function proof and delivery proof. Domain proof is any real exposure to how care is delivered or funded. Function proof is your craft. Delivery proof is evidence that a thing you did reached real users and moved a number.
- Lead with a two line summary naming your function, your domain and your outcome.
- Every bullet: problem, what you did, measurable result, timeframe.
- Cut every clinical abbreviation a non clinician would need to look up.
Build a portfolio even if your function is not creative
A short public write up beats a private achievement. A workflow teardown of a clinical process, an analysis of an open dataset, a redesign of a discharge letter, a one page memo on why a category will consolidate. Three of these are enough. They give the interviewer something concrete to react to and they demonstrate written thinking, which is most of the job in a distributed team.
The interview loop, and what each stage tests
Screen tests motivation and whether you understand the business model. Hiring manager tests prioritisation and judgement. Case or take home tests structure under ambiguity. Cross functional tests whether people want to work with you when you disagree. Leadership tests whether you can be trusted with a customer.
- Ask what the company would have to believe for this role to be redundant in a year. The answer tells you the real mandate.
- For case work, state assumptions explicitly and show the trade off you rejected.
- Have one story about a project that failed and what you changed afterwards.
Reference points on compensation
Ask for the band early, ask how equity is priced and vested, and ask what the company's cash runway is. Those three answers describe your actual risk more accurately than the title. In an offer negotiation, scope and reporting line compound over years. Salary does not compound nearly as fast.
Key signals
- Domain proof, function proof, delivery proof, on one page.
- Three short public write ups outperform a long private track record.
- Ask what would make the role redundant in a year to find the real mandate.
- Negotiate scope and reporting line as hard as cash.
